Call for entries: 2013 Chinook Book cover contest

Put your art on next year's cover!

Chinook Book is conducting its second annual cover contest and we'd like to hear from you. We'll be choosing a cover art winner for each of the following five cities and surrounding areas. Ideally you'll be from this place or will have lived there once.

• Seattle & Puget Sound
• Portland, Oregon
• Minneapolis/St Paul
• Denver & Boulder 
• Bay Area 

Each winner will receive $500 and their art will be featured on the cover of the 2013 Chinook Book in both print and mobile, released in September 2012. Chinook Book is sold at local retailers and by hundreds of local school and non-profit groups as a community-oriented fundraiser.

The Phinney Neighborhood Association's 15th annual Design & Remodel Home Fair is the place to be on January 29th if you're needing inspiration or expertise for your home remodel! Get inspired by dozens of exhibitors who will share their remodeling ideas, expertise, and products. City of Seattle permitting specialists will also be on hand to answer your questions.

New Print and Mobile editions are here!

The new editions are here, and they're the best ever. Print and mobile coupons are now available as separate products. Both print and mobile editions contain over 425 offers from local retailers. You'll find old favorites like PCC Natural Markets, Whole Foods and Theo Chocolate as well as newcomers like Urbane and Sports Authority. Grocery product manufacturer coupons (92 total) are only available in the print book. Over 20,000 people are using the Chinook Book app — learn more about Chinook Book mobile coupons here.

Introducing the 2012 Chinook Book Cover Artist!

Mimi Williams “No Child Left Inside”

We held a contest for local artists to design the cover of this year’s book. The submissions were amazing, and we faced a difficult choice. In the end, we selected a block print by Olympia artist Mimi Williams. In addition to teaching third grade, Mimi is a printmaker who works primarily in linoleum cut block prints. According to Mimi, “The art of creating a linoleum block print requires you to decide what will be the negative and positive spaces, and it is this process that gives nuance to the image.” Each print is unique, as she hand prints each image impressing the ink by using the back of a wooden spoon.
